After nearly seven painstaking hours of UFC: Hamburg on Sunday, Anthony Smith made short work of Shogun Rua in their main event light heavyweight fight. Merciful, perhaps, if you were one of the superfans who sat through the whole thing, but not so for Rua himself. On this episode of the CME, Ben and Chad talk about the rise of Smith into a fun character on the 205-pound landscape, but also the politics of Shogun getting KOed at an event that felt like filler content. They also discuss the stakes of Nick Newell’s upcoming fight at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series and next Saturday’s UFC on Fox 30 card. On Fox, Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier will hook up for a rematch of their UFC 211 “no contest” and Jose Aldo faces a must win against Jeremy Stevens.
All that, plus AYFKM and Just Sayin’ Stuff.
